Refresh faded tiles or explore a different colour with RENOTEC, a water-based two-coat system for compatible mineral roof tiles.

We check the roof's condition, preparation and finish before recommending coating. A new colour is a surface treatment, not a repair for leaks or structural defects.

MORE POTENTIAL THAN YOU MIGHT THINK

A Roof Can Look Tired Without Needing Replacing.

Rain, sunlight and changing British seasons can fade colours and discolour tiles. Moss can hide the original finish. A worn appearance doesn't always mean the material has reached the end of its useful life.

If the underlying roof remains sound and the tiles are compatible, specialist coating may refresh the existing surface.

Colour restoration. Not structural repair.

RENOTEC is designed to restore colour and add surface properties — not rebuild a defective roof.

Renew the appearance

Restore faded tiles with a consistent colour that complements the whole exterior of your home.

Make more of your existing roof

Where the roof remains sound, coating offers a way to refresh and protect serviceable tiles without replacing them just for their appearance.

Choose a finish to suit your home

From traditional Tile Red to contemporary Anthracite, explore a colour that works with your brickwork, render and windows.

Protect as well as restore

Add a breathable, water-repellent surface that helps protect suitable tiles from moisture absorption and weathering.

Great-looking results begin with confirming the roof's condition, not choosing a colour first.

WHAT MAKES RENOTEC DIFFERENT

More Than a New Colour. Specialist Roof-Coating Technology.

RENOTEC is a water-based, two-coat roof coating, manufactured in Germany to restore colour and protect suitable mineral tiles, including compatible concrete and clay roofs.

Its breathable, water-repellent finish helps protect the tile surface from moisture and UV exposure. We match the preparation, primer and coating system to your roof for a finish that does more than change its colour.

Enhanced beading depends on the specified system.

Water-repellent protection

RENOTEC reduces water absorption into treated tiles, helping rainwater run off rather than soak into the surface. Keeping tiles drier helps reduce the effects of weathering and freeze–thaw damage.

Highly breathable finish

Moisture vapour can escape through the coating while the surface repels rainwater. With a low Sd value of 0.03 metres, RENOTEC allows treated tiles to breathe rather than trapping moisture beneath an impermeable finish.

UV-resistant colour

The UV-resistant coating helps protect against sunlight-related degradation and keeps the renewed colour looking attractive. Its flexible finish accommodates normal surface movement.

A surface that stays cleaner

The water-repellent finish helps rainfall carry away loose dirt, making it easier for the roof to stay looking clean. Routine roof checks and appropriate maintenance still help keep everything in good condition.

Discourages moss, algae and lichen

By reducing moisture absorption, RENOTEC makes treated tiles less welcoming to moss, algae and lichen. Shade, nearby trees and local conditions will still influence how quickly growth can return.

Enhanced water beading

For a super-hydrophobic finish, the RENOTEC Beading Performance Additive (BPA) enhances the water-beading effect. Where included in your agreed coating system, it is mixed into the second coat only.

Your assessment brings the right preparation, primer and coating together for your roof. We explain whether enhanced water beading with the BPA additive is included before you agree to the work.

The product matters. The roof underneath it, preparation and application matter just as much.

THE WORK BEHIND THE FINISH

A Premium Finish Starts With Proper Preparation.

Specialist coating isn't simply spraying new colour onto old tiles. Substrate, preparation, repairs, primer and weather all influence the work involved.

  1. Assess the roof and access

Check the tile material, overall condition and safe access. Where accessible, inspect the roof void for damaged felt or underlay so that underlying issues can be identified before coating.

  2. Clean and prepare the surface

Thoroughly pressure-clean suitable tiles to remove moss, lichen, dirt and loose material. Apply ProPERLA Cleaner as part of the preparation and allow the surface to dry before moving on.

  3. Complete repairs and allow to dry

Replace damaged tiles and address agreed ridge and mortar repairs. Fresh mortar and the roof surface must be properly dry before the coating system is applied.

  4. Apply primer where needed

Choose the preparation and compatible RENOTEC primer to suit the tile material and absorbency. Where primer is required, apply it correctly and allow it to dry before coating.

  5. Apply two RENOTEC coats

Apply the first coat with dilution matched to the specified system, followed by an undiluted finishing coat once the first is fully dry. When included, the Beading Performance Additive is mechanically mixed into the second coat only.

  6. Check the finish and explain aftercare

Inspect the completed finish, tidy the work area and explain ongoing care. Provide the applicable guarantee details so you understand the product cover and any separately agreed workmanship cover.

A suitable weather window matters

We schedule coating for temperatures of at least 5°C and a suitable dry-weather window. Roof condition, temperature and humidity affect drying, so each stage is allowed to dry properly before the next begins.

The attractive finish is what you see. Careful preparation is what helps it perform.

HONEST SUITABILITY FIRST

Not Every Roof Should Be Coated. That's Important.

A new colour is only worthwhile when coating is appropriate. A weathered roof may be suitable; a clean-looking roof may hide defects that need investigation.

When coating may be worth considering

  • The roof material is compatible with the system.
  • Existing tiles remain serviceable and suitable for preparation.
  • You want a refreshed or different colour.
  • Cleaning, primer and any repairs can be completed appropriately.

When coating may not be right

  • Structural problems or active leaks remain unresolved.
  • Tiles are extensively damaged or incompatible.
  • Necessary preparation cannot safely be completed.
  • The roof falls outside manufacturer requirements.

Does coating fix a leak?

No. It is not a substitute for repairing defects in the roof’s weatherproofing system.

Does every tile need the same primer?

No. Tile material and absorbency determine the right preparation. We select a compatible primer where needed, rather than treating every surface in the same way.

What if the roof just needs cleaning?

Then we can recommend cleaning without coating. Colour restoration is an option when you want to refresh the finish and add protection to suitable tiles.

DECIDE WITH CONFIDENCE

Understand the Product, the Work and the Quotation.

Your quote depends on the existing roof, not just the colour. We'll explain the proposed scope before you decide.

What affects the cost?

Roof size and shape, safe access, material, contamination, condition, preparation, primer, coating, necessary repairs and the agreed finish all influence the job.

Independently tested performance

RENOTEC has undergone independent testing for long-term performance, alongside tests for breathability, water resistance, flexibility and adhesion. Its 25-year proven performance relates to the coating system, not a guaranteed remaining lifespan for every existing roof.

A 10-year manufacturer guarantee

RENOTEC carries a 10-year manufacturer guarantee, subject to its terms and installation requirements. We confirm the applicable cover, exclusions and claim process in writing before you agree to the work.

The 25-year product performance is separate from this guarantee. Any RoofRegen workmanship cover is explained separately in your quotation.

View All Frequently Asked QuestionsExplore RENOTEC Technology

Does RENOTEC Require a Primer?

Some roofs need a primer to prepare the tiles for coating. The right choice depends on the tile material, absorbency and surface condition. We assess your roof and specify a compatible primer where needed before applying the two RENOTEC coats.

What Is the RENOTEC Beading Performance Additive?

RENOTEC Beading Performance Additive (BPA) enhances water beading to create a super-hydrophobic finish. When specified, it is mechanically mixed into the second coat only. We confirm whether it is included in your coating system as part of your quotation.

Can RENOTEC Change the Colour of My Roof?

Yes, on suitable tiles RENOTEC can refresh the existing colour or introduce a different finish. We help you choose a shade that complements your home and confirm the available colours before work is agreed. Any planning, listed-building or other property restrictions also need to be checked before a colour change.

Does RENOTEC Allow Roof Tiles to Breathe?

Yes. RENOTEC allows moisture vapour to escape through the coating while repelling rainwater at the treated surface. Its low Sd value of 0.03 metres indicates high breathability, helping tiles release moisture rather than trapping it beneath a sealed finish. We still check that the coating system is suitable for the roof before recommending it.

Does RENOTEC Prevent Moss Forever?

No. RENOTEC discourages moss, algae and lichen by reducing water absorption and making treated tiles less welcoming to growth. Shade, nearby trees and local weather still affect how quickly growth can return. Routine roof checks and appropriate maintenance remain important.

What Affects the Cost of a Roof-Coating Project?

The roof area, material, condition, safe access, preparation, primer requirements, repairs and agreed coating specification all influence cost. The separate BPA additive and any additional work should be identified where specified. A property-specific quotation is more useful than a universal square-metre price.
